Hotpoint · error F08Hotpoint oven showing F08
An F08 code on a Hotpoint oven generally relates to the heating circuit — the control board has detected a problem with the relay that switches the oven element on and off.
What it usually means
Exact F-code meanings vary between Hotpoint models and ages, but F08 typically means the board can't reliably control the heating element — either the relay has stuck, or the element circuit isn't behaving as expected. Whether it's worth fixing depends entirely on which it is.
Common causes
- Stuck or failed relay on the control board
A relay on the PCB has worn out. On an older oven, a new board can push the repair toward 'not worth it'.
- Faulty oven element
The element has gone open-circuit or short. This is usually a sensible, affordable repair.
- Wiring or connector fault
Heat-damaged connectors near the element are common and often a straightforward fix.
F08 is the kind of fault that can go either way — a cheap element, or a control board that makes repair uneconomical on an older oven. A 20-minute video call tells you which, before you spend a penny on parts.
Note: exact fault behaviour varies by model and age — the only way to be sure is to have someone look. That's what the £29 call is for.
